Carlos Abadi

Carlos Abadi was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Jose Abadi and Francoise Guthmann de Abadi on the 14th of July, 1960. Mr. Abadi is a world citizen. He speaks 7 languages; he is fluent in English, Spanish and French and proficient in Portuguese and Italian, and has a working knowledge of Hebrew and German. His interests lie in world politics, international finance, travel and cycling. Mr. Abadi participated in L’Etape -2005 Tour de France. He is married to Barbara Abadi and has two sons. Carlos Abadi comes from an accomplished family of prominent and historical figures. Carlos Abadi’s great-uncle, Moussa Abadi saved hundreds of Jewish children from the Nazi persecutions during World War 2. Carlos Abadi’s uncle, Marcelo Abadi wrote Spinoza and Borges, a literary review of the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. His cousin, Martin Abadi is a Stanford educated PhD, a computer scientist and a prolific author.

Carlos Abadi graduated from the Lycee Franco-Argentin Jean Marmoz in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1977. He then studied Industrial Engineering at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, earning a Master’s degree in 1983. In 1985, Carlos Abadi earned a Masters of Business Administration and Finance from Cornell University’s Johnson School of Business in Ithaca, New York.

Carlos Abadi dedicated his 20 year career to creating financial solutions and offering expert advice to emerging markets, governments, banks and private sector companies operating in volatile, and sometimes chaotic, financial environments. As a result of Mr. Abadi’s extensive mathematical training, his approach is always based on a solid analytical debt valuation methodology and risk/reward evaluations.

Mr. Abadi has played an active role in the emerging markets debt trading arena since the first Mexican syndicated loans started to change hands in the wake of Mexico’s 1982 default. Since then, he has specialized every major restructured sovereign debt instruments issued since 1985.

On various occasions over the course of his career, Carlos Abadi has been invited to speak as a guest lecturer at Columbia University, Harvard University, and New York University to share with business students his extensive emerging markets experience and vision.
