St. Jude Trike-A-Thon to raise funds for kids battling cancer

A St. Jude Trike-A-Thon event will be the week of April 26 at La Crescent Christian Childcare Center. The Trike-A-Thon will teach children riding-toy safety while raising money for St. Jude Children’s Re-search Hospital.

American Red Cross and Cisco Launch Corporate Volunteer Program

The American Red Cross and Cisco (News – Alert) have announced a new initiative ‘Cisco’ Ready’ based on the Red Cross’ “Ready When the Time Comes” training program for corporate personnel. This initiative is claimed to be the largest corporate volunteer program, in which Cisco personal across the world will be trained by the Red Cross in emergency response.

Cisco employees will train for emergency response with more than 20 Red Cross chapters in the US and affiliates throughout the world. Their training includes providing first aid, shelter, food and supply distribution and they will also be coached in spotting volunteer opportunities and those who finish the training program successfully will be eligible for “Fulfilling Our Mission” and “Mass Care” certifications from the Red Cross…

Ben Stiller’s STILLERSTRONG stays strong with launch of ‘Haitian School Initiative’

Last December, we brought you word of Ben Stiller’s charitable spoof (witness above video) of Lance Armstrong’s charitable tour de force — LIVESTRONG. Well, sort of a spoof, I should say. Stiller was 100% serious with his goal: raising funds to build a school in Haiti.

This was before the earthquake struck.

Post quake, Stiller’s campaign had a even greater role to play, and in response, he launched the Haitian School Initiative to set up temporary schools for Haitian children who had been displaced…

Autism Speaks & Tommy Bahama to Participate in Los Angeles Dodgers Autism Awareness Day

TOMS footwear: Celebs bare their soles for charity

The Jonas Brothers are walking around barefoot right now. Are you? Today is One Day Without Shoes, the annual day wherein organizers (and their celebrity pals) challenge everyone to go the day, part of the day or even just a few minutes barefoot, to experience a life without shoes firsthand. It’s to help spread awareness of the impact a simple pair of shoes can bring to a child’s life in the developing world, where practicing basic foot hygiene can prevent both infection and disease due to unsafe roads and contaminated soil (in Ethiopia, for example, it’s said that approximately one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a disease caused by walking barefoot in volcanic soil).
